Twitter fake page http ltwltter com timed out Beware it will steal your password phishing

Twitter fake page http ltwltter com timed out Beware it will steal your password phishing

If you get a Direct message that looks like this:

ROFLMAO i cant stop laughing at this pic of you ppfr.it/434
Direct message sent by YourFriend (@yourFriend) to you (@YourName)

The first reaction is to click on the short link ppfr.it/434 which will take you to http://t.co/tIdsrtv which will resolve to http://ltwltter.com/timed_out/ (notice the l before the t of twitter) which will present a FAKE Twitter login page that looks exactly like the Twitter web site with username and password screen:

image

Please beware since this is a FAKE login screen So do NOT enter your login details!

If you do enter your username and password then the fake page will steal your username and password and then redirect you to another fake page:
http://ltwltter.com/status/error/  (notice the l before the t of twitter)
image
Once the phishers have harvested your login details then they will send DMs to all of your followers and send them the same ROFLMAO message and hope that they fall into the same trap and log in to the fake Twitter page.

Be careful out there and remember to ALWAYS check the URL of the page that you are logging in to.

Ubuntu for Android The Team that Comes will be a Smartphone

Ubuntu for Android The Team that Comes will be a Smartphone

Canonical has just released a very interesting new project: Ubuntu for Android. The idea is simple, the conversion of a terminal at two different things depending on what you are using. Thus an Android phone would be a normal cell, but immediately became a computer with Ubuntu.

Android Ubuntu may be the experience of a complete mobile desktop, not simulated, that come with office software, web browser, applications, email and multimedia, and everything that Android can offer. Seamless integration between Android and Ubuntu. Everything running smoothly and immediately. Therefore, our contact with our PC Android Ubuntu would also allowing access to their Facebook or Twitter, SMS, read and respond to messages or make calls directly from your desktop.
For now, the minimum requirements for Ubuntu + Android are:

  • 1 GHz dual-core
  • Accelerated video shared by kernel module with Open GL ES / EGL
  • 2 GB of disk space
  • HDMI video output
  • USB Host Mode
  • 512 MB of RAM
Anyway, we have to wait until next week, when it will be officially launched at the Mobile World Congress, to be more detailed project information.

Unable to load Deep Freeze Configuration Login Program will not be available

Unable to load Deep Freeze Configuration Login Program will not be available

Problem: No Deep Freeze Icon in Taskbar and Shortcut key "(Ctrl+Alt+Shift)+F6" doesnt seem to work and got an error message prompting "Unable to load Deep Freeze Configuration Login Program will not be available".

To Solve This Issue Disable All Faronics Deep Freeze Services

You can done this by simply typing the command services.msc in the run dialog box. Once you are in the services window, locate the service name DFserv and right click on it and select properties (refer to image below).

After clicking properties, stop and disable the service. Refer to the image below for instructions. Note: Restart is needed for changes to take effect on your system.

After restarting, at this point you no longer have any Deep Freeze service or application running at the background of your system. Also the system Deep Freeze Icon should be gone. You are still able re-enable Deep Freeze by reversing the whole process. Note: You can now uninstall deep freeze and re install again.

Ubuntu MATE 15 04 Will Ship With Nifty Tilda Terminal App

Ubuntu MATE 15 04 Will Ship With Nifty Tilda Terminal App

The Ubuntu MATE team, fresh from going official community flavour status, have been busy detailing some of the handy new features shipping in Ubuntu MATE 15.04.
Among them is the addition of Tilda. Tilda is a dropdown terminal application thats similar to popular alternatives like guake but with a smaller memory footprint something important for a distribution like Ubuntu MATE.
Dropdown terminals arent for everyone but have advantages. For one, they dont require you to open an app, instead letting you hit a hot key (in Ubuntu MATE this will be F12) to open and close it.
Like other related terminal tools Tilda has a wealth of customisation and configuration options. And yes, it supports multiple tabs!
Explaining more about the feature, and demoing it in action on the Ubuntu MATE 15.04 desktop, is project lead Martin Wimpress.

How to Install Tilda in Ubuntu

Like the look and feel of Tilda? The good news is that you dont have to be on Ubuntu MATE 15.04 to use it.
Tilda is available to install on most versions of Ubuntu (and related flavors) straight from the repositories.
Click to Install Tilda from the Ubuntu Software Center
To install Tilda using the command line open a new terminal window and run:
sudo apt-get install tilda
After installation has completed you can launch it from your desktops app menu.
The first time you run Tilda youll see a setup guide that will let you choose a keybinding. By default Tilda uses Super + F1.

Ubuntu 12 04 Will Be End Of Life in April 28th 2017 ESM Surprise

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" will reach End-Of-Life in 28 April 2017 (44 days from today). This information released by Adam Conrad today (March 15th) in the official ubuntu-announce mailing list. The surprise is, Dustin Kirkland announces today in the same mailing list that Canonical offers paid Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) for Precise once it reaches End-Of-Life. ESM is a new paid support from Canonical introduced in this year. For you Precise users, you may upgrade to newer supported version of Ubuntu, or replace it, or stay at Precise without updates with the old-archive repo, or stay at Precise and stay up-to-date by purchasing ESM support.

Ubuntu leaving Upstart for Systemd a decision that will go a long way in preventing further fragmentation

Ubuntu leaving Upstart for Systemd a decision that will go a long way in preventing further fragmentation

Upstart is an event-based replacement for the init daemon which handles starting of tasks and services during boot, stopping them during shutdown and supervising them while the system is running. The project was kick-started in early 2006 by Canonical. Systemd is similar to Upstart in core philosophies, but comes with added advantages. Initial release was in 2010. Mark Shuttleworth, in his latest blog post, has announced the switch to Systemd from Upstart.

Debians switch to Systemd prompts Canonical to change its direction
After much deliberations, Canonical founder and former-CEO Mark Shuttleworth has just announced the Ubuntus switch from Upstart to Systemd. A move widely seen as pragmatic by his critics and supporters alike. The decision comes after Debian Technical Committees selection of Systemd over Upstart.  "The decision is for systemd, and given that Ubuntu is quite centrally a member of the Debian family, thats a decision we support", he added.

Though Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" will still be running Upstart, you can expect the slow transition to happen starting from Ubuntu 14.10. Read more here.

Ubuntu 10 10 Will Get Unity Ubuntu Light Interface

Ubuntu 10 10 Will Get Unity Ubuntu Light Interface

unity light ubunut
Ubuntu Light with Unity launcher

Mark Shuttleworth just announced a version of Ubuntu for the dual-boot called Unity and a range of Light versions of Ubuntu, both netbook and desktop, that are optimised for dual-boot scenarios. These "Light" Ubuntu versions are optimized for the web.

The Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 Maverick will get a new panel on the left of the screen which will be used for launching and switching between applications. This panel can be expanded so it is touch-friendly.

The top panel wont be removed since it will be used for the Global Menu which we aleady talked about as well as the window title.

But like Mark said, the Unity interface will also be available for the Desktop, with a dual-boot for instant web access (known as Ubuntu Netbook Light and Ubuntu Desktop Light). However, Ubuntu Light for the Desktop will only be available for OEMs, and you wont be able to download Ubuntu Light from ubuntu.com:

Given the requirement to customise the Light versions for specific hardware, there wont be a general-purpose downloadable image of Ubuntu Light on ubuntu.com.

Unity

Unity already exists and can be installed from a PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-dx-team/une
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install unity

Then logout and then log back in selecting Unity UNE Session from your login screen.

There are also a lot of branches to this project which you can get from HERE.

unity ubuntu 10.10

However, Unity for Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 will evolve a lot and wont look like it is today. There is currently a mock-up available with an app called Dash which presents files and applications as an overlay. The inspiration for the Dash comes from consoles and devices, which use full-screen, media-rich presentation. We want the Dash to feel device-like, and use the capabilities of modern hardware:

Unity will use Mutter for window management, and Zeitgeist will be an anchor component of the file management approach. The interface itself is built in Clutter.

Unity already has its own page @ http://www.canonical.com/products/unity. The webpage says that Ubuntu Light boots to the web in seven seconds on a Dell Mini 10v.

Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS)

More news on Unity will probably come soon, as the Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat development has already started. Also, UDS is not over yet, so things we might get some new announcements.

Mark Shuttleworth also announced at Ubuntu Developer Summit today that "The Perfect 10" will have new icons, new fonts and many other desktop improvements. Also, he said that Ubuntu 10.10 is set to be released on October 10, 2010 (thats 10.10.10).
