Ubuntu 16 04 Review and Linux current state
Ubuntu 16 04 Review and Linux current state
Ubuntu 16.04 Review and Linux current state
In this video i want to review ubuntu 16.04 and talk about the state linux is currently in.
You might think why am i reviewing ubuntu release after so much time has passed. Well i wanted to fully test it before i would make a verdict.
I should point out that i have been a supporter of canonical and ubuntu for some time now and it is becoming hared and harder to defend it.
When you install ubuntu 16.04 you will be hard to find any difference between 14.04 and 16.04 well now you have a different software center that from my experience works worse, let me clarify will it faster to open, but it doesnt shows all the software that are in the repository and installing software is an adventure it might install software or it might not. It is like rolling a dice, i am not even talking about the bug it originally had that it couldnt install deb files. Yes you couldnt install deb files with software center just imagine how awesome would it be for a user that has switched from windows to find out that he cant install files like he is used to, and he should have used terminal. i am not even talking about the constant updating reminder notification but when you try to update the system the update manager tells you that there arent any updates.
Lets talk about UI now there is a saying "If its not broke, dont fix it" well i think canonical are swear by this, lets be honest unity UI is an acceptable UI that needed ton of work to become a good UI for example when i am working on documents and have multiple doc files opened it is very hard to navigate in unity and now they added a feature that divides open folders by partition in where they are. So i am struggling finding in what directory i have my documents stored and constantly looking through every notification.
However the biggest issue i have is with the performance!!!!!! Originally linux was always lighter then windows and this was one of the selling point of linux but now i believe that it is more hungry for resources then a clean windows 10 installation. Yes i know when you install few software on windows it will slow down, but it is a huge problem when ubuntu decided to say no to optimizing and every release they are becoming more resource hungry. Plus there is no way to justify this because unlike other operating systems they arent adding anything to the system.

So now lets talk about the current state of linux when i first used linux it was in 2008 and now it is 2016, let me explane what was going on in 2008:
Well in 2008 everyone was using windows XP (Few days ago i used windows xp to refresh my memory) it was a terrible operating system it was constantly crashing, it was slow, it needed drivers for everything, it was a huge MESS, so in 2008 when i used ubuntu 8.04 i was really surprised how good it actually was sure it crashed, sure it would become slow, sure it had driver issues, but this was nothing out of the ordinary for that time and ubuntu was much more stable and fast compared to windows. NOW IT IS 2016 and i should say that unlike other operating systems linux barley has improved for average pc user (Windows is very stable operating system and believe it or not it is light weight as well), but you might tell me we have zfs we have this and that..... but does it really matter for an average pc user ??? NO!! it doesnt for average pc user the most important thing is how good does it opens software that he is interested in.
In this aspect we the linux users are getting screwed, linux users are getting inferior software (product) compared to windows users even firefox (open-source frontiers) developers say that linux version is worse then windows version and blame the market share (they cant devote a lot of developers for such a small market such as linux) dont believe me go ahead and benchmark firefox on linux and windows you will see how much faster windows version is.
Other then web browser average user will use a office suit well same problem here you might encounter files that libreoffice cant open (I did and filled up a bug report) so here we are screwed as well!! What about video card drivers and games well of course we get inferior product here as well, games run much worse on linux, and dont let me get started about video card drivers. So at the end of the day linux users can copy files faster from one directory to another that is where we have an edge on other operating systems. YES!!! we are dominating.
I am not saying linux isnt amazing but it is amazing for big companies and for developers but for average user linux is years behind compared to windows. This are users who dont care how much information is microsoft is taking, users only care about how efficient their software works and in this aspect linux is rather inferior.
If you been watching linux action show you will know that they are using macs for the production and even though they are trying to replace them with linux they are on again off again it because they struggle with linux. So if they struggle with linux and they cant trust it just imagine how much problems will an average pc user will have. Lets stop sugar coating our situation it isnt that good and lets look the reality in they eye.
It really sucks in what situation linux actually is but lets look at the reality and try to improve it, but because linux has such a small market i honestly dont know if situation will ever improve for linux users, because unless its market share will grow i dont think the developers will really make high quality ports (versions) for it.

Two men got Killed in Enugu State
Two men got Killed in Enugu State

Two young men got themselves killed in Enugu State as a result of strong argument, an Igbo man together with a Fulani man died in Enugu state after a strong argument
As people were celebrating their Christmas festival, some people think that they can make much money by still hanging on to their business while others were away. They were busy doing their business in order to make extra money during this season.
Among the people in this category are these two young men who engaged in a serious arguments that cost them their lives. These young men were seen doing their normal duties early hours of that day until the evening time when the argument started. It was said that the two able bodied men engaged in a strong arguments, That resulted to them calling themselves terrible names. they continued this strong arguments for a long duration of time, people around them tried to persuade them to stop the unnecessary argument, but they reused to listen.
Long after, the arguments continued to get stronger and stronger that it began to draw the interest of the people passing by. Their friends and also the passers - by tried to stop them but rather they increased the argument, this continued to go on until one of them brought out a knife and heeded to his opponent, the young man who didnt see that coming on time tried to hold him by his hand but his enemys strength was stronger than him. The man over powered him and struck the knife in his belly leaving him dead at the spot.
As this happened, people around began to shout. One of the Mob who was observing his duty around that place saw this and he became angry, he stated beating this young man who had done this. He gave him all kind of punishment until he had no strength in him. The young man was beaten to stupor until he became unconscious. He was later rushed to the hospital, and later gave up on Thursday morning.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police command in Enugu confirmed the deaths on Thursday, December 29.
NAN also reports that while what led to the argument was yet to be ascertained, both dead men were believed to be either traders or transporters working in the markets park.

Travis Day on the state of WotB and Archon
Travis Day on the state of WotB and Archon
Blizzard tracker: April 19, 2013
I have a love hate relationship with Wrath and Archon for that matter. This is a topic that I felt I should at least comment on since its come up on many occasions. There is no fundamental flaw with having a 2 minute cooldown ability that transforms your character and is really powerful, the problem is when it becomes a forgone conclusion that these AWESOME abilities are up 100% of the time and instead of being excited that they are up you are annoyed when they fall off. We have talked about what if anything we want to do with these abilities in the long term. I will say we have no short term plans to change them but we dont like that they arent fulfilling their original purpose which is to provide a really awesome button that mixes up the tempo of combat for a small window of time.

Triple Bummer!!! The Swapper State of Decay Lifeline and Abyss Odyssey
Triple Bummer!!! The Swapper State of Decay Lifeline and Abyss Odyssey
*
Games: Its been a disappointing week for games. Three releases that Ive been stoked for have all been letdowns, and none of them are on the will definitely finish this track.
The first was The Swapper. I heard nothing but kudos for this game since it hit PC last year, and I was pretty psyched when I heard it was coming to consoles. (Played it on PS4.)

Apparently its a very short game but I only got about halfway because I found myself going to GameFAQs too often to get past the puzzles, and thats just not a good experience. If the devs had made just a little more effort in integrating the puzzles with the environments, or making the environments more logical in terms of the games world, I probably wouldve hung in there.
The next bummer is the Lifeline DLC expansion for State of Decay. I reviewed the base game for 360 back in 2013, and I still stand by it as one of the best zombie titles ever made. With the release of Lifeline, the core game received some fixes, additions, and patches that fans have been requesting, so its even better than it was. If youve never played the original, I absolutely recommend it. However, I cant say the same for this DLC.
In the add-on, the player takes control of a small group of soldiers sent to rescue targets from an overrun city. They quickly establish a small base, and then its up to them to perform supply and rescue runs while waiting for the chopper to come back at various intervals. Its a great idea and since it offers all-new characters and an all- new map, I couldnt have been more excited. However, it was incredibly frustrating and unpleasant for a number of reasons.

Its a great idea and since it offers all-new characters and an all- new map, I couldnt have been more excited. However, it was incredibly frustrating and unpleasant for a number of reasons.

Speaking of stupid, the soldiers on your team are little better. At one point I was being chased and ran back inside my base. I was low on health and out of ammo, and I ran inside thinking that the rest of my troops would come to my aid, but I couldnt have been more wrong. The zombies chased me inside the gates with none of the guards stopping them, and as I was getting torn apart in the middle of my encampment, two guards stood watching without lifting a finger.

This moronic AI wouldnt be so bad if the difficulty wasnt so high, but compared to the base game, its a lot tougher, and it doesnt often feel very fair or sensible. For instance, I was searching a small warehouse, and after sweeping the area to pick off a few stray zombies, the coast was clear. I went inside to search for goods, and five seconds after I started searching, a horde of zombies flooded in through the back door. My partner and I took them out, but just as we were finishing the first group, a second wave came in. We polished those off, and then a third group came in. Keep in mind, this area had been totally clear before we started our search, so the zombies were appearing out of nowhere. We got overrun and both of my characters died despite taking measures to prevent such a thing from happening. Similar events are quite common, with waves of zombies appearing at high frequency and in great numbers. I get that there are some SoD fans who constantly want the game to be harder, but honestly... fuck them. In my opinion, its already tough to deal with, and as it stands, its scaled too high.
There are other things that are problems like not being able to bring more than one soldier for backup despite the fact that the game can easily handle friendly groups of 3/4, or the absurd length of time it takes to reload a gun. Im no soldier myself, but Lifeline has the longest reloads Ive seen in any game in recent memory, and losing characters because theyre taking an hour to pop in a clip is rubbish. I still love the base game and Im absolutely still a fan of Undead Labs, but this Lifeline expansion was entirely too frustrating, and I hope that they patch it to a place where ridiculous zombie spawning and brain-dead AI doesnt kill the fun.
The final made-me-frown game is Abyss Odyssey, recently released by Atlus. Like the other two, its so close to being something quite cool, but it just doesnt quite get there.

To give it credit where its due, the visual style is great, I like the character design, and the idea of a combat-heavy platforming roguelike where the player must go deeper and deeper into a pit is a good one Its all solid here.

I really dig the things that it gets right, and Im going to try this one on PS3 to see if the controls are any better, but I suspect that they probably wont be I really wish it felt better to play.
Dont want to leave you on a down note, so just a quick word about The Walking Dead, Season 2, Episode 4: Amid The Ruins Although The first three eps of the new series have been pretty terrible, the latest one really got the Walking Dead mojo back.

My review is in the can and itll be up soon, but if youre like me and have been feeling less-than-jazzed about The New Further Adventures of Clementine, Episode 4 might change your opinion.
Cheers to @Boiteabebelles for convincing me to give it a try, because I was honestly thisclose to outright quitting after Ep.3
