Ubuntu Gutsy Getting compiz fusion working under ati fglrx driver
First of all I have to say compiz-fusion is really cool! And with Gutsy we dont have to play with custom scripts for xserver anymore. Getting it working is so easy.
Follow these steps:
1. Refresh your package list using Synaptic.
2. If you havent done so already, select and install package "xorg-driver-fglrx" and Restart the computer.
4. Select and install package "xserver-xgl".
5. Ubuntu will notify that the xserver setup has changed. Restart the xserver using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
Compiz-fusion should be working now. To check, go to System -> Preferences -> Appearence -> Desktop Effects and select Normal or Extra effects.
Installing compiz settings manager
The standard appearance dialog box doesnt allow custom configuration to compiz visual effects. You have to use Compiz settings manager for advanced customizations and for some extra cool effects.
1. Using Synaptic, select and install package "compizconfig-settings-manager".
2. To access settings, Click the "Advanced" button in Desktop effects tab.

Trying to play a little Miami Hotline in Ubuntu with Steam pointed out that something is wrong with my current setup. I had unexpected video lockups too, I hope updating the Intel video drivers from this source will solve them too. Miami Hotline works flawlessly now, so there is hope :-)
Type this in the terminal to update your intel drivers:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade Warning: Performance will be decrease a little bit according to Glmark2, but it will be more stable...

Ubuntu 16 04 LTS no login con i driver nvidia 304 132 Ecco come risolvere il problema
Gli utenti di Ubuntu 16.04 LTS che fanno uso dei driver nvidia 304.132 hanno riscontrato recentemente un grosso problema che gli impedisce di effettuare il login sul proprio PC.
Il problema � connesso allultima versione dei driver del ramo 304 attualmente presenti (come update) nei repository di Ubuntu.
In attesa di un possibile fix a monte da parte di nvidia o di Canonical con il downgrade dei pacchetti lunica soluzione � quella di utilizzare i driver nvidia 304.131 che sono ancora presenti nei repository di Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
Vediamo come risolvere il problema.
Nel caso in cui avete gi� installato i driver nvidia-304.132 la prima cosa da fare � quella di rimuoverli.
Dalla schermata di login premete la combinazione di tasti CTRL+ALT+F1 per loggarvi nella consolle e inserite i vostri dati di accesso.
Da terminale aggiorniamo dando
sudo apt-get update
rimuoviamo i driver nvidia con
sudo apt-get remove nvidia*
sudo apt-get autoremove
ora non ci resta che installare i driver nvidia-304.131 che non sono afflitti dal bug dando
sudo apt-get install nvidia-304=304.131-0ubuntu3
Bene, ora riavviamo il sistema e logghiamoci su Ubuntu.
Adesso dobbiamo istruire il sistema dicendogli di non aggiornare i driver alla nuova versione buggata. Per fare questo dobbiamo creare una regola di pinning.
Con il nostro editor di testo preferito e con i permessi da super utente creiamo il file /etc/apt/preferences.d/local-nvidia-quirks
Mettiamo il caso di voler utilizzare Gedit. Da terminale diamo:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/preferences.d/local-nvidia-quirks
Adesso abbiamo due strade. Se vogliamo saltare soltanto la versione 304.132 incolliamo allinterno del file
Package: nvidia-304
Pin: version 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2
Pin-Priority: -10
e salviamo.
Se invece vogliamo bloccare anche futuri update del ramo 304 dei driver e restare sempre sulla versione 304.131 incolliamo
Package: nvidia-304
Pin: version 304.131-0ubuntu3
Pin-Priority: 1001
e ovviamente salviamo il tutto.

Tweakforce has released Xtreme-G 305.68, a tweaked GeForce driver. Whats peculiar about this release is that it has a version for each and every Windows OS starting with XP, something that Semp (the owner of the site) hasnt done in a long time.
This driver gave me a performance boost in a Lightsmark 2008 benchmark run. Also, its a boon for Darksiders 2 players looking for an antialiasing fix as the Darksiders 2 3D profile in this driver works---enabling FXAA smooths out all the jagged edges in the game (as of August 28 4am GMT+8 THQ has yet to fix this).
