Two Years Blogging
September is almost done and with its end brings to a close my 24th month of writing Thoughts on Technology.
When I first started writing it was largely so I could document things I had figured out how to do technology related. As time progressed I wrote a few opinion pieces though and they took off. In fact they are now largely what I write, I do still publish HOWTO articles now and then though.
Would just like to say thanks to everyone that reads and comments on my work here. Honestly sometimes the comments are just as good (or better) than my posts :)

Ubuntu 12 04 LTS Desktops Support Extended to Five Years
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, code-named 'Precise Pangolin', the 4th LTS release of Ubuntu, will be supported for 5 years on the desktop as well, where it used to be supported for 3 years on the desktop and 5 years on the server with all the previous LTS releases.
It would bring hardware updates for the first 2 years of support, via regular point releases, thus keeping the product up to date with hardware changes and a further 3 years of support in the form of maintenance updates. Canonical seems to have recognized the increasing demand for Ubuntu desktops in corporate environments where longer maintenance periods are normal. Canonical has also recognized that 70% of the server users are deployed with LTS versions of the product, and as the desktop versions are reportedly similarly popular in businesses, they are now bringing the same extended support on the desktop as well, to keep it in line with the server versions.

Two years of Alizas Journey!
Its two years since release of Alizas Journey - Begining!
Awesome!
Over 2000 downloads all versions, the begining and the expansion, it sounds low amount for two years but I Am happy about it!
How Alizas Journey started?
I was trying to do multiplayer adventure map about two years ago, you choose hero from start and then play whole map till the end.
But then I started thinking I want to make campaign, I started to search how to do campaign...
The first idea for campaign was "Hermits Adventures" old orc Shaman which helps people around the world, the project got stuck because I didnt know, how to transfer the hero data from previous map to next one.
I gave up on that project and continued the adventure map, but then I still felt like, I WANT to make campaign, then I forget about the hero transfer and made the campaign without it.
I was still new to World Editor and didnt know much about triggers, so my first versions of maps were very broken, messy but after a while I started to learn more and more about triggers while searching and trying them.
Then I got some of maps done for the Campaign and so I started to post videos on youtube, I got some positive feedback, and so Alizas Journey project really started.

Two Years of Bodhi Three Years of Blogging
Two Years of Bodhi Three Years of Blogging
This year has flown by. My entire life - both on the internet and off the internet has been moving at a rapid pace and I have enjoyed almost every moment of it. Ive been so focused on my last semester of graduate work that I completely forgot to make two posts Ive been making every year.
The first is that Bodhi is two years old now! It was on November 16th, 2010 that I first announced the project I had started with a couple of friends. The project advanced rapidly and the team that we gathered was very pleased with where we were after just twelve months. Take a moment to look at the data graph in that previous link - in a nine month time span our highest throughput on the package server was under 1.5TB worth of data. We have made leaps and bounds since that point - in fact earlier this year we moved the main Bodhi package server from a VPS to a dedicated server because we had been consistently serving up over 5TB of packages each month. Beyond that our ISO image has been seeing over 25,000 downloads a month, over twice the number we saw in our first year.
The best part about all of this? Even with our increased overhead costs we have managed to stay 100% funded by user donations - meaning our main website and forums have been able to stay ad free (which I prefer). If you enjoy the Bodhi project I would ask that you please help support us by becoming a member, ordering some goodies or making a one time donation.
On a non-Bodhi related note, Ive been publishing articles here on Thoughts on Technology for not one, not two, but three years now! I plan to continue publishing articles for many more years to come.
