Two Years Blogging
Two Years Blogging
September is almost done and with its end brings to a close my 24th month of writing Thoughts on Technology.
When I first started writing it was largely so I could document things I had figured out how to do technology related. As time progressed I wrote a few opinion pieces though and they took off. In fact they are now largely what I write, I do still publish HOWTO articles now and then though.
Would just like to say thanks to everyone that reads and comments on my work here. Honestly sometimes the comments are just as good (or better) than my posts :)

Trying out this blogging thing again
Trying out this blogging thing again
This is, i think, the third time I have tried to setup a blog. I hope to be talking about a number of things on this site.
Here are the topics that interest me:

MythTV
I am the co-host of the MythTV Cast podcast. You can find us over at http://mythtvcast.com. The podcast is a small, niche, podcast centered around MythTV. We arent associated with MythTV in any way, but we wanted put together a show where we could highlight news and developments with the project, as well as interview key people associated in or around the project. Check us.
Application Development
I am an application developer specializing mostly Java Enterprise applications. I mostly develop with the Spring Framework. I tend to focus more on web-based applications and have been focusing on HTHML5 and CSS3. This has also lead me more into into integrating the web and mobile applications, specifically on the Android platform.
The first app I published in the Android Market is OpenSchedule for Android. It is a very specific app for attending conferences. I am currently working on version 2 of the application.
Podcasting
As I mentioned above, I am the co-host of the MythTV Cast podcast. I am also a regular co-host on the Linux Link Tech Show. We meet live every Wednesday night at 8:30 pm EST and we talk about Linux and all types of technology.
I live in podcasts every day. They run all day long on my Android phone as I am doing my work. I will be posting links to my regular podcasts in a future posting.
Linux
I live in Linux every day. I run Ubuntu Linux on my work laptop as well as my MythTV boxes at home. I hope to address some news and topics as they come up as well as issues that I run into (although, this seems far less than a few years ago). If you are interested in how I got into linux, check my bio on the tllts.org web site.
Cooking
I know this is completely unrelated to all the other technology based topics I have mentioned, but it is, quite possibly, my favorite thing to do. I will try almost any food as well as try to make almost any dish. My wife and I have gone to numerous cooking classes and we are always trying new things.
This is a little about what I intend to put here. I am going to try to post some stuff here on a somewhat consistent basis, but, if past experience tells me anything, dont expect too much :) For some reason, I have been getting the itch to write some things down lately, and I hope this will be that place for me to do that.

Two Years of Bodhi Three Years of Blogging
This year has flown by. My entire life - both on the internet and off the internet has been moving at a rapid pace and I have enjoyed almost every moment of it. Ive been so focused on my last semester of graduate work that I completely forgot to make two posts Ive been making every year.
The first is that Bodhi is two years old now! It was on November 16th, 2010 that I first announced the project I had started with a couple of friends. The project advanced rapidly and the team that we gathered was very pleased with where we were after just twelve months. Take a moment to look at the data graph in that previous link - in a nine month time span our highest throughput on the package server was under 1.5TB worth of data. We have made leaps and bounds since that point - in fact earlier this year we moved the main Bodhi package server from a VPS to a dedicated server because we had been consistently serving up over 5TB of packages each month. Beyond that our ISO image has been seeing over 25,000 downloads a month, over twice the number we saw in our first year.
The best part about all of this? Even with our increased overhead costs we have managed to stay 100% funded by user donations - meaning our main website and forums have been able to stay ad free (which I prefer). If you enjoy the Bodhi project I would ask that you please help support us by becoming a member, ordering some goodies or making a one time donation.
On a non-Bodhi related note, Ive been publishing articles here on Thoughts on Technology for not one, not two, but three years now! I plan to continue publishing articles for many more years to come.
