Ubuntu4Beginners becomes TuxGarage!
Ubuntu4Beginners becomes TuxGarage!
Since the old name became increasingly and obviously unfitting for the content we are providing, and we also wanted to finally obtain our own domain, we have chosen "TuxGarage" as our new name and moved to:
http://www.tuxgarage.com/
The old links pointing to http://ubuntu4beginners.blogspot.com/, however, will remain valid and will be forwarded to our new domain. Notice that during a time of transition of some 3 days you can also still land on the old sub-domain.
Out of this, there are obviously some changes. If you are already following us by one of the channels affected by this, we would be happy if you switch over with us, and to our new channels!
We apologize for any inconvenience!

Unfortunately, we had to create a new page on Facebook. So, please either "Like" our new page through the updated button on the right side or just click the one below:
Also, as we wont update the old Facebook page anymore, you may want to stop following it. Therefore, just click on the link below to visit our old page, then choose "Unlike" on the left side:

As there is no additional work involved for us to keep the old feed running parallely, it will continue to be updated for some time.
But we, nevertheless, encourage you to switch over to the new feed in a considerable amount of time. Please use the updated box on the right side therefore.

Ubuntu Budgie Becomes An Official Ubuntu Flavor
Quick update: Ubuntu Budgie is now officially an Ubuntu flavor. The team behind Ubuntu Budgie aims at making 17.04 (expected in April, 2017) its first release.

Initially called Budgie Remix, the Budgie-desktop powered Ubuntu flavor has its first unofficial release back in April (16.04).
Budgie Desktop is essentially a shell for GNOME, and it features a libmutter-based window manager, a customizable panel which includes an applet, notification and customization center, as well as a menu that offers both compact and category views.
Like Budgie Remix, Ubuntu Budgie should use GNOME applications by default, such as Files (Nautilus), Gedit, and so on, with extras like Plank dock, and various customizations.

Turin becomes the first Italian city to adopt Ubuntu and Open Office saves millions of Euros!
Turin, Italy joins the French city of Toulouse and German city of Munich in the mass adoption of open source and Linux as the official alternatives saving millions of Euros in licensing cost and other charges. News like these are becoming more commonplace these days. Major cities in the world are choosing Linux primarily because of cost-benefits, and Microsoft is finding it harder and harder to explain the huge costs involved with its products.
Turin adopts Ubuntu and Open Office, saves 6 million Euros
Economic hardships are bringing the best out of administrators and strategists alike, as the City of Turin recently found out. The city administrators calculated that, updating the licences for all the PCs running Windows products will cost them a whopping 22 million Euros over a period of 5 years! At the same time, adopting Linux and open source alternatives will actually save them 6 million Euros during the same period.
Turins administrators has decided to go with open alternatives and specifically chosen Ubuntu Linux distribution, Apache OpenOffice office suite and programs such as Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. Citys 8,300 odd municipal offices will start seeing the changes soon.
